Day 1: Arrival – Bagdogra to Latpanchar
Pickup from Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. Scenic drive via Kalijhora with foothill birding. Lunch at Latpanchar followed by afternoon birding around the local forest trails. Travel: ≈ 65 km / 2.5 hrs Overnight: Latpanchar Homestay
Day 2: Full-Day Birding at Latpanchar
Explore the upper ranges of Mahananda WLS in the morning, focusing on hornbill territories. The afternoon covers forest edges and village trails to spot Laughingthrushes, Minivets, and the Red-headed Trogon. Overnight: Latpanchar Homestay
Day 3: Excursion to Mana Hills
Early morning transfer to the higher elevation habitat of Mana Hills. Key targets include the rare White-naped Yuhina, Himalayan Cutia, and Mountain Hawk-Eagle. Return to Latpanchar for lunch and further afternoon trail birding. Travel: ≈ 18 km / 45 mins (one way) Overnight: Latpanchar Homestay
Day 4: Latpanchar to Rongtong
Early check-out and breakfast en route as we travel to Rongtong (Sukna). After lunch, enjoy an afternoon birding session in the Rongtong forests targeting Forktails and Drongos. Travel: ≈ 55 km / 2 hrs Overnight: Rongtong / Sukna
Day 5: Full-Day Birding at Rongtong
A full day dedicated to the subtropical and riverine habitats of lower Mahananda WLS. Seek out Broadbills, Woodpeckers, the Puff-throated Babbler, Asian Barred Owlet, and the Great Hornbill. Overnight: Rongtong / Sukna
Day 6: Departure – Rongtong to Bagdogra
Optional morning birding session followed by breakfast. Transfer to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station for your onward journey. Travel: ≈ 25 km / 1 hr
