Detailed Birding Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Bagdogra to Latpanchar
Pickup from Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. Enjoy a scenic drive via Kalijhora with en-route bird watching for foothill and riverine species. After lunch, embark on an afternoon birding session around the Latpanchar forest trails.
- Travel: ≈ 65 km / 2.5 hrs
- Overnight: Latpanchar Homestay
Day 2: Full-Day Birding at Latpanchar
Morning birding in the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary upper ranges, focusing on hornbill territories. Afternoon exploration along forest edges and village trails targeting the Red-headed Trogon, Sultan Tit, Laughingthrushes, and Minivets.
- Overnight: Latpanchar Homestay
Day 3: Excursion to Mana Hills
Early morning transfer to Mana Hills for higher elevation birding. Target rare species like the White-naped Yuhina, Mountain Hawk-Eagle, Himalayan Cutia, and Green Cochoa. Return to Latpanchar for lunch followed by afternoon trail birding.
- Travel: ≈ 18 km / 45 mins (one way)

Day 4: Latpanchar to Rongtong
Early check-out with birding stops en route to Rongtong (Sukna), the foothill entrance of Mahananda WLS. Afternoon birding in Rongtong forest targeting Forktails, Racket-tailed Drongo, Scarlet Minivet, and Owls.
- Travel: ≈ 55 km / 2 hrs
- Overnight: Rongtong / Sukna
Day 5: Departure – Rongtong to Bagdogra
Optional morning birding session if time permits before departure. Breakfast at the homestay followed by a drive to Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station.
